A mount holds your optic at the right height and position on the rail. Cantilever mounts push a scope or LPVO forward for proper eye relief, risers lift a red dot to co-witness height, and rings hold traditional scopes in a tube size (1 inch, 30 mm or 34 mm). Red dot mounts are cut for a specific footprint, such as Aimpoint Micro or Trijicon RMR, so match the mount to your optic. Quick-detach (QD) mounts come off and go back on without losing zero.

Mounts & Rings: common questions
What mount height do I need?
On an AR-15 flat-top, a mount of about 1.41 inches puts most red dots at absolute co-witness and about 1.57 inches at lower 1/3. Many LPVO users choose 1.54 to 1.7 inches for a more heads-up position.
Rings or a one-piece mount?
One-piece cantilever mounts are the usual choice on an AR-15 because they push the scope forward and stay aligned. Separate rings suit bolt-action rifles and long rails.
What is an optic footprint?
The footprint is the screw and recoil-lug pattern on the bottom of a red dot. Common ones are Aimpoint Micro, Trijicon RMR and Aimpoint ACRO, and the mount has to match yours.
