Charging Handle

The AR-15 charging handle pulls the bolt back to load, clear and lock the action open. The mil-spec handle has a small latch on the left; ambidextrous and extended-latch handles are easier to use with a scope or LPVO in the way, and gas-busting designs keep gas out of your face when you shoot suppressed.
Any mil-spec AR-15 charging handle fits a standard AR-15 upper; AR-10 and some side-charging uppers need their own. Compare charging handles across stores below and add one to your build.

Charging Handle: common questions
Do I need an ambidextrous charging handle?
It's not required, but an ambidextrous or extended latch is easier to grab with either hand, with gloves, or under a magnified optic, and it helps left-handed shooters.
What is a gas-busting charging handle?
It seals the gap behind the charging handle so less gas blows back toward your face, which matters most when you shoot suppressed.
Does any AR-15 charging handle fit my upper?
Yes, mil-spec AR-15 charging handles fit standard AR-15 uppers. AR-10 (.308) uppers and some side-charging uppers need their own handles.
