MyGunLab.com Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 27, 2026

This policy explains what information MyGunLab.com ("MyGunLab", "we", "us") collects when you use our website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. MyGunLab is an AR-15 parts-picker, build gallery, blog, and forum. We do not sell products ourselves, and we never take payments or card numbers on this site.

Information you give us

  • Account information. If you register, we collect a username, email address, and password (stored only in hashed form). You can optionally add a first and last name, a short bio, a profile photo, and links to your Twitter/X or Facebook profile.
  • Content you post. Builds and part lists, gallery photos and descriptions, forum posts, comments, and product ratings. Content you publish (for example, published builds, gallery posts, forum posts, comments, and your public profile) can be seen by anyone who visits the site.
  • Comments and ratings. When you comment, we store the name, email address, and optional website you enter, plus your IP address. When you rate a product, we store your rating and IP address. We use these to prevent spam and abuse. Your email address is not shown publicly.
  • Contact form. If you contact us, we collect your name, email address, and message so we can reply.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs. Like most websites, our servers record your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, the referring page, and the date and time. We use these logs for security, troubleshooting, and fighting abuse, and keep them for about five weeks.
  • Cookies. We use a small number of cookies:
    • sessionid keeps you logged in and remembers the build you are working on.
    • csrftoken protects forms against cross-site request forgery.
    • _ga and _ga_* are Google Analytics cookies (see below). They can last up to two years.
    • Our security and delivery provider, Cloudflare, may set cookies such as __cf_bm to tell real visitors apart from bots.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the sessionid or csrftoken cookies, logging in and saving builds will not work.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors use the site (for example, which pages are viewed, how long visits last, roughly where visitors are located at the city or country level, what device and browser they use, and which retailer links are clicked). Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technology to collect this information. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We do not send Google your name, email address, or username, and we do not use Google Analytics advertising features. Google Analytics data is kept for no more than 14 months.

To learn how Google uses this information, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can opt out of Google Analytics on all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Retailer and affiliate links

Our parts lists, product pages, and articles link to outside retailers. Some of these links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy something (see our Disclosure). When you click one, you leave MyGunLab. Our main affiliate network is AvantLink. Clicks on buy links to participating retailers pass through AvantLink, and AvantLink, the retailer, and any other affiliate network involved may set their own cookies to track the referral. Their privacy policies apply from that point on. Our pages also load a small AvantLink script that turns links to participating retailers into affiliate links. Like any web request, loading it sends your IP address and browser information to AvantLink. We do not receive your name, payment details, or what you bought. At most, we receive order totals and commission amounts, without any personal information.

How we use information

  • To run the site: accounts, saving builds, gallery, forum, comments, and ratings.
  • To reply to messages you send us.
  • To understand and improve the site, using Google Analytics and server logs.
  • To keep the site secure and prevent spam, fraud, and abuse.
  • To comply with the law.

The only emails we send are replies to messages you send us. We do not send marketing emails or newsletters. If we ever start, we will follow the CAN-SPAM Act, and every message will include a working unsubscribe link.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted (cross-context behavioral) advertising. We share information only in these cases:

  • Service providers that help us run the site and may only use the information to provide their services to us: DigitalOcean (hosting), Cloudflare (content delivery and security), Google (analytics and delivery of contact-form email), Zoho (email), and AvantLink (affiliate link tracking).
  • Public content. Anything you choose to publish on the site is visible to other visitors.
  • Legal reasons. When required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of MyGunLab, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers. If the site is sold or transferred, user information may transfer to the new owner, and this policy will continue to apply to it.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

There is no common industry standard for "Do Not Track" browser signals, so our site does not currently respond to them. Google Analytics also does not respond to them. Because we do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, there is nothing for a Global Privacy Control signal to opt you out of. You can still opt out of analytics using the add-on linked above.

How long we keep information

  • We keep account information and the content you post for as long as your account exists, or until you ask us to delete it.
  • We keep contact-form messages as long as they are needed to handle your request.
  • We keep server logs for about five weeks.
  • Google Analytics data is kept for no more than 14 months.

Your choices and rights

  • You can view and update most of your account information by logging in and editing your profile.
  • You can ask us for a copy of your personal information, or ask us to correct or delete it (including deleting your account), by emailing [email protected]. We will respond within 45 days. We may need to confirm that the request comes from you.
  • Depending on where you live (for example, California and other US states with consumer privacy laws), you may have additional rights. We honor the requests above for all users, wherever they live, and we will not treat you differently for making a request.

Security

The site uses encrypted HTTPS connections from your browser all the way to our server. Passwords are stored only in hashed form, and access to our systems is limited. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.

Children

MyGunLab is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the effective date above. If a change is significant, we will also post a notice on the site.
