A drop-in handguard installs without tools or gunsmithing: it fits between the delta ring and the handguard cap at the front, and the standard barrel nut stays in place. That makes it the easiest way to add M-LOK, KeyMod or Picatinny rail space to a classic M4-style upper. Drop-ins aren't free-floating, so pressure on the rail can shift your point of impact slightly. Match the length to your gas system: carbine (about 7 inches) or mid-length (about 9 inches).
