Best AR-15 Pistol Grips: Magpul, Hogue, Ergo and More (Live Prices)

Short answer: for most builds the Magpul MOE is the best AR-15 pistol grip: 25 degree angle, 2.8 oz, and a compartment that takes Magpul's storage cores. Want rubber? The Hogue OverMolded grip (2.8 oz with the beavertail). Short length of pull or a compact rifle? The Magpul MOE-SL or MOE-K2 (both 17 degrees). Want to fit the grip to your hand? The Magpul MIAD comes with interchangeable backstraps and front straps. Grips are cheap, and the right one depends on your hand size and length of pull.

Figures are from Magpul, Hogue, B5 Systems and Bravo Company product pages, read October 2026. Magpul's weights include hardware. A lower angle number is a more vertical grip: Magpul describes its 17 degree MOE-SL as improving comfort and control on short length-of-pull rifles.

Our picks

Best overall: Magpul MOE

Magpul calls it an ergonomic storage grip that will not break the bank. It is 4.0 inches from receiver to bottom, 1.2 inches thick and 2.8 oz, with ridged straps, and it takes Magpul storage cores for a spare battery or small kit.

Best rubber grip: Hogue OverMolded

Hogue's beavertail grip is a thermoplastic elastomer with finger grooves and its Cobblestone texture, and weighs 2.8 oz. It installs with your factory grip screw. Hogue notes that on some rifles the rubber tongue overlaps the trigger guard and has to be trimmed with a utility knife, so read its fit notes before you buy.

Best for short length of pull: Magpul MOE-SL and MOE-K2

Both are 17 degrees. The MOE-SL (2.8 oz, 1.1 inches thick) is the slimmer; the MOE-K2 (2.9 oz) is a larger, more vertically angled version of the MOE-K that accepts storage cores. The MOE-K (2.4 oz, 20 degrees) is smaller still.

Best adjustable: Magpul MIAD

The Gen 1.1 kit ships with three backstrap sizes (small, medium, large, with and without a beavertail), two front straps and a lube bottle core. At 25 degrees, it is built for AR-15 and AR-10 patterns.

Most vertical: B5 Systems P-Grip 23

B5 lists a 13 degree angle and 2.2 oz. Storage is a separate B5 Grip Plug, and B5's instructions call for a T30 Torx bit and say to retain the safety detent spring when you remove the old grip.

How to choose an AR-15 pistol grip

  • Angle. A more vertical grip (17 degrees or less) pairs with a short length of pull; the traditional 25 degrees suits a longer reach. Our stocks guide covers length of pull.
  • Size. Thickness runs from 1.0 in (MOE-K) to 1.2 in. A smaller hand wants a slimmer grip.
  • Texture. Rubber (Hogue, MOE+) is soft; plain polymer is cheaper and lighter.
  • Storage. Magpul grips take storage cores; B5 sells a plug; BCM's Mod 3 has none.
  • Fit. A grip bolts on with one screw, but your safety selector detent and spring sit under it. If you want controls on both sides, see ambidextrous AR-15 lowers and controls.
  • State laws. California, New York and others name a protruding pistol grip in their rifle definitions: see our featureless AR-15 guide before you choose one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AR-15 pistol grip?

For most builds, the Magpul MOE: 25 degrees, 2.8 oz and storage-core compatible. The Hogue OverMolded is the best rubber grip and the Magpul MIAD the most adjustable.

Are Hogue grips good for an AR-15?

Hogue's OverMolded beavertail grip is a 2.8 oz rubber grip with finger grooves and a Cobblestone texture, installed with your factory screw. Hogue notes the tongue may need trimming on some rifles.

What is the best Ergo grip for an AR-15?

Ergo's TDX-0 Tactical Deluxe is its zero-angle design with an overmolded SUREGRIP texture; its other grips use the traditional angle.

What does grip angle mean?

How far the grip leans back from vertical. Magpul's MOE-SL and MOE-K2 are 17 degrees; the MOE is 25. A lower number is more vertical.

How hard is it to change an AR-15 grip?

One screw holds it, but the safety selector detent and its spring sit under the grip, so hold them in place when you remove it. B5's instructions say to retain the detent spring.

Which AR-15 grip has storage?

Magpul's MOE, MOE-K2 and MIAD accept storage cores; B5's P-Grip 23 takes a separate Grip Plug. BCM's Mod 3 has no compartment.
